Explore the process of making our stop-motion film
Character Design
The characters of Amos and Dots will be created as puppets, at a 1/7th scale, standing at 10 and 8 inches tall. Starting with a sturdy metal armature, they will then be padded with foam and costumed with custom miniature clothes. You can see a 2D version of the design on the right, as well as the armatures.
Faces will be sculpted in polymer clay, painted and topped with wool hair. The sculpt will include a hole at the bottom of the face for the replacement mouthes - allowing the characters to articulate and speak. These replacement pieces will be magnetized for a smooth and easy on-set replacement process. Each mouth will correspond to a sound, allowing the characters to speak.
The eyebrows will magnetized as well to the heads to allow them to move and give the puppets various facial expressions.
